“While natural disasters capture headlines and national attention short-term, the work of recovery and rebuilding is long-term.” ~ Sylvia Mathews Burwell

Flood Relief programme

“Even with all our technology and the inventions that make modern life so much easier than it once was, it takes just one big natural disaster to wipe all that away and remind us that, here on Earth, we’re still at the mercy of nature.” ~ Neil deGrasse Tyson.

According to Unicef, around 33 million people, including approximately 16 million children, have been affected by this year’s heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan, which have brought devastating rains, floods and landslides. Some major rivers have breached their banks and dams have overflowed, destroying homes, farms and critical infrastructure including roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and public health facilities.

More than 1,300 people reported to have died and more than 13,000 have been injured. In addition, more than 660,000 people are in relief camps, although the displaced population numbers are much higher. Most of the displaced population are from Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan provinces.

Al-qalam student support trust is helping displaced people by providing food and shelter in Sindh and South Punjab provinces of Pakistan. So far, we have provided temporary shelter to 50 families in South Punjab and ration (of one month) to 60 families in Sindh. We are aiming to provide 100 more temporary shelters and food for families.

In these difficult times, your support can save lives. Your donation can bring some ease in difficult life of displaced people who lost their home and loved ones. It’s supporters like you that can help us in arranging temporary shelter and food for 100 families. Please donate.
